Around The World In One Afternoon: The Beijing World Park

What do Stonehenge, the White House, the Taj Mahal and Neuschwanstein Castle have in common?

You can find all these famous sights – just slightly smaller in size – in Beijing. To be more precise, in the Beijing World Park.

Located southwest of the city center, this quaint amusement park houses the most famous buildings in the world.

On display are the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Pyramids of Giza, the Moscow Kremlin and Big Ben.

These are replicas, more or less detailed, built to the scale of 1:10 to 1:25. The path through the park leads from one continent to another: Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and South America.

The park contains 109 smaller replicas of famous landmarks from almost 40 countries. Some of which were recreated with significant attention to detail.

The Red Square in Moscow for example was made with over five million tiny red bricks to resemble the original as closely as possible.

Take Photos from Around the World Without Leaving Beijing

Did you always want to take a selfie in front of the Eiffel Tower?

Or pretend to support the Leaning tower of Pisa with your hands? Or feel like a giant sitting on the steps of the Capitol Building?

There are heaps of great photo ops in the World Park. That’s why it attracts not only tourists and school classes, but also couples who choose this place to shoot their wedding photos.

The park just turned 25 years old. It opened in 1993 but the years did not quite pass without leaving a trace. The Red Square is no longer such a radiant red, the door of Lenin’s mausoleum hangs awry and the gondolas under the Bridge of Sighs do not necessarily look seaworthy. A whiff of the past lingers between the twin towers of the World Trade Center and the Paris Notre Dame Cathedral.

Nevertheless, the World Park is a popular destination for visitors and school classes. Reportedly it attracts around 1.5 Million visitors annually. It’s a great place to get out of the city if you’re looking to see something a little more off the beaten track in Beijing.

The entrance fee is 100 RMB per person. Kind of a lot in comparison to other Beijing attractions but hey, much cheaper than a plane ticket around the world.
